Highway Bureau, MOTC
The Highway Bureau is committed to provincial highway engineering, highway transportation management and highway supervision, simplifying administration and facilitating the people. The business scope is divided into three categories: road engineering, road transportation and road supervision, providing convenient and safe services for the public.
About Us

Our office oversees the Taichung City Station, Fongyuan Station, Changhua Station, Nantou Station, and the Puli Substation. Each station is organized into 4 to 5 sections based on operational needs, providing motor vehicle services to Taichung City, Changhua County, and Nantou County.

Feb. 1, 1952
 
The Taichung Motor Vehicles Office of the Taiwan Provincial Department of Transportation, Highways Bureau, was established on Feb. 1, 1952, at 77 Beitun Rd., North Dist., Taichung City, and officially commenced operations on Feb. 10.
1953
 
To meet local needs, Yuanlin Station was subsequently established in February 1953.
1960
 
Nantou Station was established in July 1960.
 
1966
The Taichung Motor Vehicles Office was renamed the Third Region Motor Vehicles Office in December 1966.
1967
 
Fongyuan Station was established in 1967.
 
1970
This office was renamed the Taichung Region Motor Vehicles Office in April 1970.
Dec. 30, 1974
 
Its branch, Yuanlin Station, was renamed Changhua Station on Dec. 30, 1974.
Sept. 27, 1980
 
This office was relocated on Sept. 27, 1980, to No. 2, Sec. 1, Youyuan Rd., Dadu Township, Taichung County, where it remains today. As this location is almost 20 km from downtown Taichung City, in response to public demand, the office on Beitun Rd. was reestablished as the Taichung Office on Oct. 1, 1980. This office is dedicated to motorcycle-related services and professional drivers in Taichung City.
Sept. 17, 1981
 
To strengthen services for people in remote areas, the Puli Substation was established on Sept. 17, 1981, thereby expanding the scope of its services.
Apr. 1, 1983
 
On April 1, 1983, the Taichung Office was officially reorganized into the Taichung City Station.
Jan. 30, 2002
 
Due to the downsizing of the Taiwan Provincial Government, the 'Taichung Motor Vehicles Office, Highways Bureau of the Taiwan Provincial Department of Transportation' came under the administration of the national 'Highways Bureau of the Department of Transportation'. After the Bureau was further renamed the 'Directorate General of Highways, Department of Transportation' on Jan. 30, 2002, the full title of this office became the 'Taichung Motor Vehicles Office, Directorate General of Highways, Department of Transportation'.

Due to the reorganization of the Highway Bureau Ministry of Transportation and Communications, the name “Directorate General of Highways” was changed to “Highway Bureau”. Meanwhile, there were some changes in our organization. The name of our agency has been changed to Taichung Motor Vehicles Office, Highway Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications.Due to the reorganization of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), the 'Directorate General of Highways' was renamed the 'Highway Bureau'. Consequently, our agency was officially renamed the 'Taichung Motor Vehicles Office, Highway Bureau, MOTC'.
